Description
CIPDAPLA-M 10/500 Tablet is a prescription combination medicine formulated for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It provides dual glycemic control with two complementary anti-diabetic agents:
-
Dapagliflozin (10mg): A sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that promotes the removal of excess blood glucose via urine, working independently of insulin.
-
Metformin Hydrochloride (500mg): A biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production, delays glucose absorption from the intestines, and enhances insulin sensitivity.
Mechanism of Action
-
Dapagliflozin: Inhibits SGLT2 in the kidneys, blocking glucose reabsorption, thereby increasing urinary glucose excretion and lowering blood sugar levels.
-
Metformin: Lowers glucose production in the liver, improves insulin response, and reduces intestinal glucose absorption; together, superior glycemic control is achieved compared to using either component alone.
Indications
-
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Used for adults when diet, exercise, and other single-agent (monotherapy) treatments do not achieve adequate glycemic control.
-
Prevention of complications: Helps lower risk of diabetic complications including kidney, nerve, eye, and heart disorders.
Benefits
-
Reduced fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels
-
Supports weight management and lowering of blood pressure
-
Decreases risk of cardiovascular complications in high-risk diabetic patients
-
Low risk of hypoglycemia when used alone (but risk increases if taken with other anti-diabetic medication or missed meals).
