ALFUFAST

Description

Alfufast Tablet contains alfuzosin hydrochloride 10 mg in a prolonged/extended-release formulation, generally taken once daily with food. It is prescribed for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)—an enlarged prostate causing lower urinary tract symptoms in men.

How it Works / Key Benefits:

• Alfuzosin is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist. It binds to and blocks these receptors in the smooth muscle of the prostate, bladder neck, and urethra.

• This blockade relaxes the smooth muscle and reduces resistance, improving urine flow and relieving symptoms like urinary hesitancy, weak stream, straining, nocturia, and incomplete bladder emptying.

• The prolonged-release tablet ensures sustained drug levels for 24-hour symptom control, allowing convenient once-daily dosing with lower risk of vasodilatory side effects; titration is not typically needed.

Uses / Indications:

• Symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with urinary frequency, urgency, and discomfort

• Not indicated for hypertension or as a preventive therapy

Dosage & Administration:

• One 10 mg prolonged-release tablet once daily, immediately after the same meal each day (improves absorption and reduces side effects)

• Swallow whole; do not crush, break, or chew

Safety & Precautions:

• Common side effects: dizziness (esp. on standing), headache, tiredness, abdominal discomfort, runny nose, mild hypotension

• Less likely to cause sexual side effects compared to other alpha-blockers

• Caution in patients with history of severe liver/kidney impairment or who use antihypertensives

• Not for use in women or children
