ATORNIZ-20

Description

Atorniz-20 Tablet is a statin medication prescribed to lower high cholesterol and triglycerides, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attack, and stroke.

Uses / Indications

• Treatment of high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia) and elevated triglycerides

• Prevention of heart disease, heart attack, angina, and stroke in people with risk factors or established cardiovascular disease

• Slows the progression of atherosclerosis (cholesterol plaque buildup in arteries)

Mechanism of Action

• Atorvastatin blocks HMG-CoA reductase, the key enzyme involved in cholesterol production in the liver

• Reduces LDL (“bad” cholesterol), raises HDL (“good” cholesterol), and lowers triglycerides

• Also offers some anti-inflammatory effects and stabilizes atherosclerotic plaques, further reducing heart risk

Dosage & Administration

• 20 mg once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day

• Dose adjustments may be made based on cholesterol levels and the patient’s cardiovascular risk profile

Safety & Precautions

• Common side effects: mild muscle pain, headache, abdominal pain, flatulence, indigestion, constipation, or diarrhea

• Rare but serious: muscle injury (myopathy/rhabdomyolysis), severe allergic reactions, yellowing of skin/eyes, severe fatigue

• Periodic monitoring of liver function and cholesterol profile is recommended

• Not to be used in pregnancy or breastfeeding

• Should be used with caution in patients with liver disease; dose adjustment may be required
