Description
Ismo Retard Tablet ER is an extended-release formulation of Isosorbide Mononitrate, a nitrate medicine used for the prevention and long-term treatment of angina pectoris (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart). Its sustained release action ensures a steady therapeutic effect over an extended period, reducing the frequency of angina attacks and improving heart efficiency. Unlike fast-acting nitroglycerin tablets, it is not intended for immediate relief of acute angina episodes but is instead prescribed for ongoing management.
Uses
-
Prevention of stable angina pectoris
-
Long-term treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD)
-
Adjunct therapy in congestive heart failure (CHF) (as directed by a doctor)
-
Improves exercise tolerance in cardiac patients
How It Works
Isosorbide Mononitrate releases nitric oxide, a natural vasodilator, which relaxes vascular smooth muscle. This leads to dilation of veins and arteries, reducing the preload (venous return) and afterload (arterial resistance) on the heart. By decreasing myocardial oxygen demand and improving coronary blood flow, it helps prevent angina attacks and enhances heart performance.
The extended-release (ER) design ensures a slow and consistent release of medicine, providing sustained protection against angina throughout the day.
Benefits
