CERBILEP-50

Description

Cerbilep-50 Tablet contains topiramate, an anticonvulsant medication used mainly to manage epilepsy (seizures) and prevent migraine headaches.

Uses / Indications

• Epilepsy (seizures): For focal (partial-onset) and generalized tonic-clonic seizures as monotherapy or adjunctive (add-on) therapy in adults and children over 2 years.

• Lennox–Gastaut syndrome: Adjunctive therapy in this severe form of childhood epilepsy.

• Migraine prevention: Reduces frequency and severity of migraine attacks in adults and adolescents; not for acute migraine treatment.

• Other off-label uses: Sometimes used for mania, trigeminal neuralgia, mood stabilization, neuropathic pain, or weight management as directed by the doctor.

How it Works / Key Benefits

• Reduces abnormal excitement in the brain by blocking sodium and calcium channels, enhancing GABA activity, suppressing glutamatergic stimulation, and inhibiting carbonic anhydrase; thus preventing seizures and reducing migraine triggers.

• Helps achieve better seizure control and reduces the burden and disability caused by migraines.

Dosage & Administration

• Taken once or twice daily as prescribed; dose is individualized and gradually increased to minimize side effects.

• Can be taken with or without food; drink plenty of fluids to reduce risk of kidney stones.

• Never stop suddenly—dose must be tapered per doctor guidance to prevent withdrawal seizures or rebound migraines.

Safety & Side Effects

• Common: Tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, appetite/weight loss, taste changes, numbness/tingling, diarrhea, difficulty concentrating/word finding, vision changes.

• Serious/rare: Mood changes, suicidal ideation, kidney stones, metabolic acidosis, severe rash (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome)—seek urgent help if these develop.

• Monitoring of serum bicarbonate and regular eye exams may be recommended.

• Use with caution in kidney/liver impairment, during pregnancy, or with other sedatives.
