Cefadrox-CV 500/125 Tablet

Description

Cefadrox-CV 500/125 Tablet is a combination antibiotic that contains:

• Cefadroxil (500mg) – a first-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.

• Clavulanic Acid (125mg) – a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents certain bacteria from inactivating cefadroxil, thereby enhancing its effectiveness.

This combination is used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections, including those caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains resistant to cefadroxil alone.

Uses

• Treatment of respiratory tract infections (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Management of urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections

• Effective against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria

• Used in adult and pediatric patients requiring broader-spectrum antibiotic therapy

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Nausea or vomiting

• Diarrhea

• Mild stomach discomfort

• Rash or itching

Serious but rare side effects:

• Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, swelling, difficulty breathing)

• Severe diarrhea (possible Clostridium difficile infection)

• Liver dysfunction (jaundice, elevated liver enzymes)

• Blood disorders (rare)

Precautions

• Not recommended in patients allergic to cephalosporins, penicillin, or clavulanic acid

• Complete the full course as prescribed to prevent resistance

• Inform your doctor about other medications, especially other antibiotics

• Use cautiously in patients with kidney or liver impairment

• Consult a physician if symptoms persist or worsen

Dosage

• Typically 1 tablet twice daily, or as directed by a physician

• Can be taken with or without food

• Swallow the tablet whole with water

• Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight

• Keep tablets in original packaging
