Description

Gabaneuron 100 Tablet is a combination medicine used for the management of neuropathic pain and nerve-related disorders. It contains Gabapentin, an antiepileptic and analgesic, and Methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12), which plays a vital role in nerve repair and regeneration.

This lower-strength formulation (Gabapentin 100 mg) is often prescribed to patients who are new to therapy, elderly individuals, or those requiring a gradual dose escalation to reduce side effects.

Uses / Indications

  • Neuropathic pain (nerve pain due to diabetes, shingles, sciatica, or spinal cord injury)

  • Peripheral neuropathy

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency–related nerve damage

  • Adjunct treatment in partial seizures (epilepsy)

  • Fibromyalgia (chronic muscle pain with fatigue)

  • Chronic pain syndromes where regular painkillers are ineffective

How It Works (Mechanism of Action)

  • Gabapentin (100 mg):

    • Binds to voltage-gated calcium channels in overactive nerve cells.

    • Reduces excessive release of neurotransmitters that transmit pain signals.

    • Provides analgesic and anticonvulsant effects.

  • Methylcobalamin (500 mcg):

    • An active form of Vitamin B12 that helps in the synthesis of nerve proteins.

    • Promotes repair of damaged nerve cells and improves nerve conduction.

    • Helps slow or prevent progression of neuropathy.

Together, they provide both symptomatic pain relief and long-term nerve protection.

Dosage & Administration

  • Typical dose: One tablet once or twice daily, as directed by the doctor.

  • Best taken at the same time every day, with or without food.

  • In many cases, treatment is started at 100 mg Gabapentin and gradually increased to higher doses if needed.

  • Must not be stopped abruptly → sudden withdrawal may worsen seizures or nerve pain.

Side Effects

Common:

  • Drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness

  • Sleepiness or fatigue

  • Unsteady movements or poor coordination

  • Blurred vision

  • Weight gain, fluid retention

  • Constipation or mild stomach upset

Serious (but rare):

  • Mood swings, depression, suicidal thoughts

  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Tremors, muscle weakness

  • Unusual bleeding or bruising

Precautions & Warnings

  • May cause drowsiness → avoid driving, riding, or operating machines.

  • Alcohol should be avoided as it increases dizziness and sedation.

  • Use cautiously in patients with kidney problems, respiratory issues, or psychiatric conditions.

  • Not recommended in children unless prescribed.

  • Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should only be under medical advice.

Summary

Gabaneuron 100 Tablet (Gabapentin 100 mg + Methylcobalamin 500 mcg) is mainly prescribed for nerve pain, peripheral neuropathy, and nerve damage due to diabetes or vitamin B12 deficiency. Its lower Gabapentin strength makes it suitable for beginners or patients needing dose adjustment. While effective for pain relief and nerve protection, it may cause drowsiness, dizziness, and mood changes, so medical supervision is essential.
