Description

Imiquad Cream is a topical immune response modifier that contains Imiquimod (12.5mg per 0.25g sachet). It is mainly prescribed for the treatment of external genital and perianal warts (caused by human papillomavirus – HPV), actinic keratosis (precancerous skin lesions due to sun damage), and superficial basal cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer).

Imiquimod works by stimulating the body’s immune system to release natural substances (like interferons and cytokines) that help fight abnormal skin growths, warts, and virus-infected cells.

Uses of Imiquad Cream

  • Treatment of external genital and perianal warts (caused by HPV)

  • Actinic keratosis (rough, scaly patches on sun-damaged skin)

  • Superficial basal cell carcinoma (a mild type of skin cancer)

  • Off-label use in certain other skin conditions requiring immune stimulation (only under medical guidance)

How to Use

  • Apply as directed by your doctor, usually 2–5 times per week depending on the condition.

  • Wash and dry the affected area before application.

  • Apply a thin layer of the cream and rub it in until absorbed.

  • Leave the cream on the skin for 6–10 hours, then wash the area with mild soap and water.

  • Use only on the affected skin – do not apply inside the body, eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina.

  • Each sachet is for single use only; discard the remainder after use.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Redness, itching, or burning at the application site

  • Skin peeling, dryness, or flaking

  • Swelling or soreness in treated areas

  • Fatigue or flu-like symptoms (rare)

Serious but rare side effects:

  • Severe skin reactions

  • Open sores or blisters

  • Swollen lymph nodes

  • Signs of systemic allergic reaction

Seek medical attention if you experience severe irritation or unusual symptoms.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Prescription Required – use only under medical supervision.

  • Avoid sexual contact while the cream is on the skin (it may weaken condoms/diaphragms).

  • Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless clearly prescribed.

  • Avoid sun exposure to the treated area; use sunscreen if needed.

  • Inform your doctor if you have autoimmune disorders, skin sensitivity, or immune system problems.

  • Do not use on broken or inflamed skin unless advised.

Conclusion

Imiquad Cream is a unique topical treatment that helps the immune system fight virus-infected and abnormal skin cells. It is widely used for HPV-related genital/perianal warts, actinic keratosis, and superficial basal cell carcinoma. Unlike conventional creams, it does not directly kill viruses or cancer cells but instead activates the body’s natural defenses for long-term benefits. Since it may cause local skin irritation and immune-related side effects, it should always be used strictly under medical guidance. With proper use, Imiquad Cream offers an effective, non-invasive treatment option for certain difficult skin conditions.
