Description

Xmet-Trio 500/0.2/1 Tablet ER is an oral anti-diabetic combination medicine used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps maintain blood sugar control by targeting different mechanisms:

  • Glimepiride (1mg): Stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.

  • Metformin (500mg): Lowers glucose production in the liver and increases insulin sensitivity.

  • Voglibose (0.2mg): Delays carbohydrate absorption in the intestine, preventing sudden sugar spikes after meals.

The extended-release (ER) formulation ensures a sustained effect throughout the day, helping improve long-term blood sugar control and reducing the risk of diabetes-related complications such as kidney disease, heart problems, and nerve damage.

Uses

  • Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus

  • Improves blood sugar control when diet and exercise alone are not enough

  • Reduces risk of complications like neuropathy, retinopathy, kidney damage, and cardiovascular disease

Dosage / How to Use

  • Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Usually taken once or twice daily with meals.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew, as it is an extended-release formulation.

  • Follow a healthy diet and regular exercise routine along with the medicine for best results.

Possible Side Effects

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) – sweating, hunger, tremors, dizziness

  • Nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset

  • Diarrhea, bloating, or flatulence

  • Headache

  • Mild skin rash (rare)

Serious but rare: severe hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis (deep breathing, muscle pain, extreme weakness). Seek immediate medical help if these occur.

Precautions

  • Avoid in patients with severe kidney or liver disease.

  • Use with caution in patients with heart disease.

  • Limit or avoid alcohol consumption, as it may increase the risk of low blood sugar and lactic acidosis.

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed.

  • Monitor blood sugar levels regularly and keep a source of sugar handy for hypoglycemia.
