Description

Levomac 500 Tablet contains Levofloxacin, which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone group. It works by killing the bacteria causing infections and stopping their growth.

This medicine is prescribed for a wide range of bacterial infections, especially those of the lungs, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues. It is not effective against viral infections (like cold or flu).

Uses of Levomac 500 Tablet

Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus infections)
Urinary tract infections (UTIs), including kidney infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Prostate infections (prostatitis)
Certain gastrointestinal infections (like typhoid fever, traveler’s diarrhea)
May be used in some drug-resistant tuberculosis regimens (as advised by specialist)

How to Use

Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Usually taken once daily, with or without food.
Swallow whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew.
Take it at the same time each day.
Complete the full course, even if you start feeling better.
Do not stop midway, as it can cause resistance and recurrence of infection.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Dizziness or headache
Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
Abdominal pain

Less common but serious side effects:

Tendon pain, swelling, or rupture (especially in elderly or those on steroids)
Irregular heartbeat
Numbness, tingling, or weakness (nerve-related effects)
Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
Severe diarrhea (may indicate Clostridium difficile infection)

Precautions

Avoid taking with antacids, iron, or multivitamins within 2 hours, as they reduce absorption.

Avoid excessive sunlight or tanning beds — this medicine can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy, tired, or have vision problems.
