LEFUMIDE-20

Description

LEFUMIDE-20 is a prescription tablet containing leflunomide, classified as a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD). It is supplied in a blister pack for stable dosing and protection.

Clinical Uses

• Rheumatoid arthritis: Controls pain, swelling, stiffness, and slows the progression of joint and tissue damage.

• Psoriatic arthritis: Reduces joint inflammation and improves function for patients with psoriasis.

Mechanism

Leflunomide inhibits dihydroorotate dehydrogenase, decreasing immune cell DNA synthesis, and suppresses overactive lymphocyte response. This controls inflammation and autoimmune destruction in joints.

Dosage & Administration

• Take once daily, at the same time each day, with or without food.

• Swallow whole with water; do not chew or crush

• Course may last months to years; continue as directed for ongoing benefit

Common Side Effects

• Diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, nausea, headache, rash, hair loss, elevated liver enzymes.

• Rare: severe allergic reaction, lowered blood counts, liver toxicity, infection, numbness/tingling.

Precautions & Safety Advice

• Contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, bone marrow, liver, kidney disease, serious infection.

• Routine blood tests required to monitor for side effects and efficacy.
