Description

Rabemac 20 Tablet contains Rabeprazole (20mg), a medicine that belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, providing relief from acid-related conditions.

It is commonly prescribed for acid reflux, heartburn, ulcers, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). By lowering stomach acid, Rabemac not only relieves discomfort but also helps the healing of ulcers and prevents further damage to the food pipe (esophagus).

Uses

Rabemac 20 Tablet is prescribed for:

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

  • Acid reflux and heartburn

  • Stomach and duodenal ulcers

  • Zollinger–Ellison syndrome (rare condition with excessive stomach acid)

  • Prevention of ulcers caused by long-term NSAID (painkiller) use

Advantages

  • Provides fast and effective relief from acidity and heartburn.

  • Promotes healing of ulcers in the stomach and intestine.

  • Protects the esophagus from acid-related damage.

  • Effective with once-daily dosing in most patients.

  • Well-tolerated compared to older acid-reducing medicines.

Possible Side Effects

Common and usually mild side effects include:

  • Headache

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

  • Stomach pain, gas, constipation

  • Dizziness

👉 Rare but serious side effects (need medical attention):

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Low magnesium levels (muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat) with long-term use

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency or bone weakness (osteoporosis) if used for prolonged periods

Precautions

  • Take the tablet before meals (preferably in the morning) for best results.

  • Inform your doctor if you have liver disease or are taking other medicines for HIV, fungal infections, or blood thinning.

  • Avoid long-term or unnecessary use unless prescribed, as it may increase the risk of infections, fractures, or nutrient deficiencies.

  • Not recommended for immediate relief of acute heartburn; it works gradually.

  • Safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly prescribed by the doctor.
