Acivir IV Injection

Description

Uses:

• Treats severe herpes infections

• Used for HSV encephalitis (brain infection)

• Used for neonatal herpes in babies

• Treats complicated shingles or genital herpes

• Given when oral/DT tablets are not suitable

Dosage:

• Dose is based on body weight and medical condition

• Given slowly through IV infusion, usually every 8 hours

• Dosage is adjusted in kidney problems

• Only administered under medical supervision in hospital

How to use:

• Given by a healthcare professional only

• Infused over at least 1 hour to prevent kidney issues

• Hydration is essential during treatment (IV fluids may be given)

Precautions:

• Inform doctor if you have kidney disease or dehydration

• Adequate hydration is mandatory

• Elderly patients need dose adjustment

• Regular kidney function monitoring required

• Use in pregnancy/breastfeeding only if clearly needed

Side effects:

• Nausea, vomiting

• Headache

• Injection site pain

• Confusion or dizziness (rare)

• Increased creatinine, kidney-related effects (with dehydration)

• Rare: allergic reactions
