Uses:

Helps control high blood pressure (hypertension)

Treats angina (chest pain)

Improves blood flow to the heart

Reduces risk of heart attack and stroke (long-term use)
Dosage:

Usually 5mg once daily

Dose may be adjusted by the doctor based on blood pressure

Elderly and liver-problem patients may need lower doses
How to use:

Take at the same time every day
-
Swallow with water, with or without food
-
Do not stop suddenly—even if BP becomes normal
-
Continue as long as the doctor advises
Precautions:

Inform doctor if you have liver problems or very low BP

May cause dizziness—avoid driving until you know how it affects you

Avoid alcohol (may lower BP too much)

Use in pregnancy/breastfeeding only if recommended

Swollen feet/ankles can occur—inform doctor if severe
Side effects:

Swelling of legs/ankles

Headache, dizziness

Flushing (warm feeling)

Fatigue
-
Palpitations
-
Stomach discomfort (rare)
