-
Doctor decides the exact dose based on BP, heart rate, and symptoms
-
Do not stop suddenly — may cause rebound high BP or chest discomfort

-
Take with food to improve absorption of Metoprolol
-
Swallow the tablet whole — do not crush or break (PR design)
-
Take at the same time every day

Continue long-term unless doctor advises otherwise
Precautions
-
Avoid alcohol — increases dizziness and lowers BP too much
-
Use cautiously in asthma, COPD, diabetes, thyroid disorders, or slow heartbeat

Metoprolol may mask symptoms of low blood sugar
-
Inform doctor if taking other BP, heart, or thyroid medicines
-
Use only if prescribed during pregnancy or breastfeeding
