Description

Diapride M2 Forte Tablet PR is an oral anti-diabetic combination medicine used to control Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults. It contains Glimepiride (2mg), a sulfonylurea, and Metformin (1000mg), a biguanide, in a Prolonged Release (PR) form that provides long-lasting blood sugar control throughout the day.

This dual-action formulation helps lower and stabilize blood sugar levels by:

  • Glimepiride: stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin naturally.

  • Metformin: decreasing sugar production in the liver and enhancing insulin sensitivity in the body’s tissues.

The PR technology ensures that the drug is released slowly and steadily, reducing the risk of sudden drops in sugar levels (hypoglycemia) and improving gastrointestinal tolerance compared to immediate-release forms.

Diapride M2 Forte Tablet PR is usually prescribed when diet, exercise, and single-drug therapy fail to adequately control blood sugar levels. It helps in preventing serious diabetes-related complications like nerve damage, kidney failure, blindness, and cardiovascular disorders.

Uses:

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Helps in achieving better blood sugar control in adults

  • Prevents long-term diabetes complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, and heart diseases

Dosage:

  • Dosage and duration are determined by the doctor based on individual response, blood sugar levels, and tolerance.

  • Typically taken once daily, preferably with or immediately after a meal.

  • Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew, as it may interfere with the prolonged-release action.

  • Take it at the same time every day to maintain consistent blood sugar levels.

  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but skip it if it’s near your next scheduled dose.

How to Use:

Take Diapride M2 Forte Tablet PR as advised by your doctor. It should be taken with food to prevent stomach upset and reduce the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Continue following a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and monitor your blood sugar levels routinely to maximize treatment effectiveness.

Precautions:

  • Avoid alcohol — it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis (a rare but serious side effect from Metformin) or hypoglycemia.

  • Not recommended for Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

  • Use cautiously if you have kidney, liver, or heart conditions. Regular checkups and lab tests are recommended.

  • Inform your doctor if you are undergoing surgery or imaging tests that involve contrast dye.

  • Always keep a source of sugar (glucose tablet, candy, etc.) nearby to treat symptoms of hypoglycemia like sweating, dizziness, or confusion.

  • Avoid skipping meals or fasting during treatment.

  • Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy.

Side Effects:

Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or diarrhea

  • Dizziness, headache, weakness

  • Metallic taste or mild digestive discomfort

Occasional:

  • Weight gain (due to Glimepiride)

  • Mild drop in blood sugar levels

Serious (seek immediate medical help):

  • Severe hypoglycemia: confusion, sweating, trembling, blurred vision

  • Lactic acidosis: muscle pain, tiredness, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat

  • Allergic reactions: rash, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulty

  • Yellowing of skin/eyes (possible liver disorder)
