About Glycomet-GP 2/850 Tablet PR

Glycomet-GP 2/850 Tablet PR is an oral anti-diabetic medicine used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (non-insulin dependent diabetes) in adults.
It helps regulate high blood sugar levels and prevents long-term complications like nerve damage, kidney disease, heart attack, and stroke.

This tablet combines two active ingredients — Glimepiride and Metformin — that work synergistically to maintain blood sugar control throughout the day.

How It Works

  • Glimepiride (2mg): A sulfonylurea that increases insulin release from the pancreas, helping lower blood sugar levels.

  • Metformin (850mg): A biguanide that reduces glucose production in the liver and improves the body’s insulin sensitivity.

The prolonged-release (PR) form provides a steady release of the medicine for consistent glucose control.

Uses

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Helps control fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels

  • Reduces the risk of diabetes-related complications

Directions for Use

  • Take the tablet once daily with food, preferably with breakfast or as advised by your doctor.

  • Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.

  • Follow a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and routine glucose monitoring.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

  • Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain

  • Diarrhea or bloating

  • Headache or dizziness

  • Metallic taste

Seek medical help if you experience severe hypoglycemia symptoms such as sweating, confusion, or fainting.

Precautions

  • Avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of lactic acidosis and low blood sugar.

  • Use cautiously in patients with kidney, liver, or heart disorders.

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed.

  • Regularly check your blood glucose and HbA1c levels.
