Description

Ismo 10 Tablet is a medicine used in the management of angina pectoris (chest pain due to heart disease) and other heart-related conditions caused by reduced blood supply to the heart muscle. It belongs to the class of drugs known as nitrates, which work by relaxing and widening blood vessels, allowing more blood and oxygen to reach the heart. This helps in preventing episodes of chest pain and improves overall cardiac function.

Uses

  • Prevention and long-term management of angina pectoris

  • Reduces strain on the heart by lowering oxygen demand

  • Helps improve exercise tolerance in heart patients

  • Sometimes used as part of treatment in congestive heart failure (as advised by a doctor)

How It Works

Isosorbide Mononitrate releases nitric oxide in the body, which relaxes smooth muscles in blood vessels. This vasodilation leads to reduced preload and afterload, lowering the workload of the heart and improving blood and oxygen delivery to cardiac tissues.

Benefits

  • Prevents frequent episodes of angina (chest pain)

  • Improves blood flow to the heart muscle

  • Reduces the frequency and severity of chest discomfort

  • Enhances quality of life in patients with coronary artery disease

Directions for Use

  • Take the tablet as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Swallow whole with water, preferably at the same time each day.

  • Do not crush or chew.

  • Not meant for relief of an acute angina attack (a fast-acting nitrate like nitroglycerin is used instead).

Safety Information

  • Use under medical supervision only.

  • Avoid sudden discontinuation without consulting a doctor.

  • Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, flushing, nausea, and low blood pressure.

  • Avoid alcohol as it can enhance blood pressure-lowering effects.

  • Not suitable for patients taking PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil/Viagra) due to risk of severe hypotension.

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use it only if prescribed by a doctor.
