ITROMED-200

Description

ITROMED-200 is a prescription antifungal capsule containing 200 mg of itraconazole. It is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of superficial and systemic fungal infections. The capsule is provided in blister packaging for consistent dosing and stability.

Clinical Uses

• Skin: ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch, pityriasis versicolor

• Nail (onychomycosis): resistant or chronic nail fungal infection

• Mucosal: oral and vaginal candidiasis (thrush)

• Systemic: histoplasmosis, aspergillosis, cryptococcosis, blastomycosis, fungal lung infections.

Mechanism of Action

Itraconazole blocks production of ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, leading to abnormal cell permeability and fungal death.

Dosage & Usage

• Take exactly as prescribed, with food for best absorption, and swallow whole.

• Course and dose depend on the type, site, and severity of infection; finish the full course for best results.

• Do not take antacids within 2 hours of the dose; use alternative contraception (not oral pills) during and for a month after completion.

• Monitor liver function for long-term or high-dose treatments

Common Side Effects

• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, constipation.

• Rare: allergic rash, severe skin reactions, hearing loss, heart rhythm disturbances, liver toxicity, swelling of extremities.

Precautions & Safety Advice

• Contraindicated in pregnancy (unless life-threatening infection), severe liver/heart/kidney disease, or when using certain interacting drugs

• Alcohol should be limited due to risk of increased toxicity.

• Inform your physician of all medical history and concurrent medications
