Description

Montina FX Tablet is a combination medicine used for the treatment of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis (hay fever), seasonal allergies, and chronic urticaria (hives). It combines Montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist, with Fexofenadine, a non-sedating antihistamine. Together, they relieve symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itchy/watery eyes, and skin allergies.

Uses

  • Allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial)

  • Chronic urticaria (hives)

  • Hay fever

  • Asthma prevention (as an add-on therapy)

  • Relief from itching, redness, watery eyes, runny nose caused by allergies

How It Works

  • Montelukast (10mg): Blocks leukotrienes, which are chemicals responsible for airway inflammation, swelling, and allergy symptoms.

  • Fexofenadine (120mg): Blocks histamine (H1 receptor antagonist), which reduces sneezing, itching, runny nose, and watery eyes without causing drowsiness.

Together, they provide dual-action relief from allergic symptoms and improve breathing.

Side Effects

Common:

  • Headache

  • Drowsiness (rare with Fexofenadine)

  • Stomach pain, nausea, indigestion

  • Dry mouth, fatigue

Serious (rare):

  • Mood changes, restlessness, or unusual behavior (linked to Montelukast in rare cases)

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Palpitations or fast heartbeat

Precautions

  • Use with caution in patients with liver disease (Montelukast metabolism)

  • Avoid alcohol and sedatives (may worsen drowsiness, though Fexofenadine is usually non-sedating)

  • Not recommended for children below 12 years (this strength; lower strengths are available for pediatrics)

  • Safe use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if prescribed by the doctor

  • Should not be used as a rescue medicine in acute asthma attacks

Administration

  • Take once daily, preferably in the evening or as advised by the doctor

  • Can be taken with or without food, but best absorbed on an empty stomach

  • Continue regularly during allergy season for best effect
