Pirox IM 20mg Injection

Description

Pirox IM 20mg Injection is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) manufactured by Cipla Ltd. It contains Piroxicam (20mg), given via intramuscular (IM) injection for rapid relief of pain and inflammation. This injectable form is particularly useful in acute painful conditions where oral administration is not possible or quick relief is required.

Uses

Pirox IM Injection is prescribed for the treatment of:

• Acute flare-ups of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis

• Ankylosing spondylitis (pain and stiffness of the spine)

• Acute musculoskeletal pain (sports injuries, sprains, strains)

• Post-operative pain and swelling

• Severe menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea)

• Short-term management of acute painful conditions

Dosage

• Usual adult dose: 20mg IM once daily (maximum duration: 2 days).

• Injection should be given by a trained healthcare professional only.

• After 1–2 days of IM therapy, patients are usually switched to oral Piroxicam tablets if continued treatment is needed.

Side Effects

Common:

• Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site

• Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset

• Headache, dizziness

Serious (rare):

• Gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers

• Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty)

• Kidney or liver impairment

• Not recommended in patients with active ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, severe kidney/liver/heart disease.

• Should not be combined with other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, or blood thinners unless medically advised.

• Use with caution in elderly patients.

• Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment.
