Description

Rosugard 10 Tablet is a lipid-lowering medicine manufactured by Cipla Ltd. It contains Rosuvastatin (10mg), a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) that is widely used to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It helps in preventing long-term cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in arteries).

How It Works

  • Rosuvastatin (10mg): Works by blocking an enzyme (HMG-CoA reductase) in the liver that is responsible for producing cholesterol.

  • This leads to lowering of LDL (bad cholesterol), VLDL, and triglycerides, while increasing HDL (good cholesterol).

  • By reducing cholesterol levels, it improves blood flow and prevents artery blockage.

Medical Uses

  • Management of high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia, dyslipidemia)

  • Prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients (diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking, or family history of heart disease)

  • Used in both primary prevention (before heart disease develops) and secondary prevention (after a heart attack or stroke).

Benefits

  • Significantly lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides

  • Increases HDL cholesterol (protective cholesterol)

  • Reduces the risk of plaque buildup in arteries

  • Prevents heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications

  • Provides long-term protection when combined with diet and lifestyle changes

Possible Side Effects

  • Headache, dizziness, muscle pain (myalgia)

  • Abdominal pain, nausea, constipation

  • Increased liver enzymes (rare, but requires monitoring)

  • Rare: Rhabdomyolysis (severe muscle breakdown), kidney issues

Warnings & Precautions

  • Liver function tests should be done before and during therapy

  • Caution in patients with liver disease, kidney impairment, thyroid disorders, or excessive alcohol intake

  • Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Avoid consuming grapefruit juice as it may increase side effects

  • Should be taken along with a low-fat, cholesterol-controlled diet for maximum benefit
