Description

1. Uses

  • Strong diuretic used for severe fluid retention (edema).

  • Useful in edema caused by:

    • Heart failure

    • Kidney disease

    • Liver cirrhosis

  • Helps reduce swelling in legs, ankles, and lungs (pulmonary congestion).

  • Helps control high blood pressure, especially when associated with fluid overload.

  • Used when lower doses (5mg or 10mg) are not enough.

2. How It Works

  • Torasemide is a loop diuretic (“water pill”).

  • Increases urine output by acting on kidneys.

  • Removes extra salt and water → reduces body fluid and swelling.

  • Lowers BP by decreasing blood volume.

  • Provides longer duration and better stability than furosemide.

3. Dosage

  • Usually taken once daily, as prescribed.

  • 20mg is a higher dose meant for severe edema or resistant cases.

  • Best taken in the morning to avoid frequent urination at night.

4. How to Use

  • Take with or without food.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with water.

  • Maintain hydration but avoid excess fluid intake.

  • Follow a low-salt diet.

  • Potassium supplements or potassium-rich foods may be needed (only if doctor advises).

  • Avoid taking the tablet late in the evening.
