1. Uses

Strong diuretic used for severe fluid retention (edema).

Useful in edema caused by:

Heart failure

Kidney disease

Liver cirrhosis

Helps reduce swelling in legs, ankles, and lungs (pulmonary congestion).

Helps control high blood pressure, especially when associated with fluid overload.
-
Used when lower doses (5mg or 10mg) are not enough.
2. How It Works
-
Torasemide is a loop diuretic (“water pill”).
-
Increases urine output by acting on kidneys.
-
Removes extra salt and water → reduces body fluid and swelling.
-
Lowers BP by decreasing blood volume.
-
Provides longer duration and better stability than furosemide.
3. Dosage
-
Usually taken once daily, as prescribed.
-
20mg is a higher dose meant for severe edema or resistant cases.
-
Best taken in the morning to avoid frequent urination at night.
4. How to Use

Take with or without food.
-
Swallow the tablet whole with water.
-
Maintain hydration but avoid excess fluid intake.

Follow a low-salt diet.
-
Potassium supplements or potassium-rich foods may be needed (only if doctor advises).

Avoid taking the tablet late in the evening.
