Description

Uses:

Unwanted-72 is an emergency contraceptive pill used to prevent unintended pregnancy after:

  • Unprotected sexual intercourse

  • Contraceptive failure (e.g., condom breakage, missed regular contraceptive pills)

  • Sexual assault, where pregnancy prevention is required

It is meant for occasional use only and should not replace regular contraceptive methods.

How It Works:

  • Contains Levonorgestrel, a synthetic progestin.

  • Prevents or delays ovulation (release of an egg).

  • Alters cervical mucus to hinder sperm movement.

  • Changes the uterine lining, making implantation less likely.

  • Most effective when taken as early as possible, preferably within 12–24 hours, and up to 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Take one tablet (1.5mg) orally with water as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse.

  • Works best if taken within 24 hours.

  • Effectiveness decreases if delayed but still offers protection up to 72 hours.

  • Do not take more than one tablet for the same incident of unprotected sex.

Side Effects:

Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting

  • Fatigue, dizziness

  • Headache

  • Breast tenderness

  • Irregular menstrual bleeding or earlier/later period

If vomiting occurs within 2 hours of taking the pill, another dose may be required.

Rare:

  • Severe abdominal pain (may indicate ectopic pregnancy — seek medical help)

  • Heavy or prolonged bleeding

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Not for regular contraceptive use; only for emergencies.

  • Should not be used if already pregnant — it will not terminate pregnancy.

  • Not recommended for women with severe liver disease, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or allergy to Levonorgestrel.

  • May be less effective in women with very high body weight (BMI > 30).

  • Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) — use barrier protection like condoms.

  • If the next period is delayed by more than 7 days, or if it is unusually light/heavy, consult a doctor to rule out pregnancy.

Storage:

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight.

  • Keep out of reach of children.
