Description
OPTANOL-450 SR contains oxcarbazepine 450 mg in a sustained release (SR) formulation, used for long-term, steady control of certain types of seizures in epilepsy. The SR tablet allows for stable, prolonged blood levels, often with once-daily dosing for improved adherence.
Clinical Uses

Monotherapy or adjunctive therapy for partial-onset (focal) seizures in adults and children (above 4–6 years, as directed).

May reduce frequency and severity of generalized tonic-clonic seizures, as part of epilepsy management.

Sometimes used for trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathic pain, and off-label psychiatric uses if prescribed by a doctor.
Mechanism of Action

Oxcarbazepine blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve cells, suppressing the abnormal brain activity that causes seizures.

Also modulates calcium and potassium channels, stabilizing neuronal firing and reducing excitability.
Dosage & Administration

Usually taken once or twice daily, as advised, at the same time(s) each day.

Swallow whole—do not crush or chew sustained-release tablets.

Continue regular dosing and do not stop suddenly to prevent seizure risk.
