About Glycomet-GP 4 Forte Tablet PR

Glycomet-GP 4 Forte Tablet PR is an oral anti-diabetic medicine used to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults.
It is prescribed when diet, exercise, and other single anti-diabetic medicines are not sufficient to control blood sugar levels.
This dual-action formulation helps in maintaining stable glucose levels and prevents diabetes-related complications such as kidney damage, nerve issues, heart disease, and eye problems.

How It Works

This tablet contains two effective anti-diabetic agents:

  • Glimepiride (4mg): A sulfonylurea that helps the pancreas produce more insulin to lower blood sugar levels.

  • Metformin (1000mg): A biguanide that decreases glucose production in the liver, slows sugar absorption in the intestine, and enhances insulin sensitivity.

The Prolonged Release (PR) form ensures a slow and steady release of the medicine for sustained blood sugar control throughout the day.

Uses

  • Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Helps control fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels

  • Reduces the risk of long-term diabetic complications

Directions for Use

  • Take the tablet once daily with meals, preferably with breakfast, or as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew.

  • Continue with a balanced diet and regular physical activity for best results.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or diarrhea

  • Dizziness or headache

  • Loss of appetite

  • Metallic taste in the mouth

Seek medical attention if you experience symptoms like sweating, trembling, blurred vision, or confusion — these may be signs of hypoglycemia.

Precautions

  • Avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.

  • Inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, or heart problems.

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed.

  • Regularly monitor your blood glucose and HbA1c levels.

  • Take at the same time each day for consistent control of blood sugar.
