Description

DiaNORM-M OD Tablet SR is a combination antidiabetic medicine that contains Gliclazide (60mg) and Metformin (500mg). It is used to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (non-insulin-dependent diabetes) in adults. This medicine helps control blood sugar levels when diet, exercise, and single-drug therapy are not enough.

  • Gliclazide (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin secretion from the pancreas.

  • Metformin (a biguanide) decreases glucose production in the liver and enhances the body’s response to insulin.

The “OD” (Once Daily) and “SR” (Sustained Release) formulation ensures the medicine releases slowly over time, providing long-lasting blood sugar control throughout the day with a single daily dose.

Uses:

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Helps maintain stable and long-term blood glucose levels

  • Prevents diabetes-related complications such as kidney damage, nerve issues, heart disease, and vision problems

Dosage:

The dosage is determined by the doctor based on the patient’s blood sugar levels and medical condition. Usually taken once daily with breakfast or the first main meal of the day.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

  • Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.

  • Take it at the same time every day for best results.

  • Do not skip meals after taking this medicine to avoid hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

  • Do not stop the medicine suddenly without medical advice.

How to Use:

Take DiaNORM-M OD Tablet SR with or after meals, preferably breakfast, to minimize stomach upset. Swallow it whole with water; do not crush or chew. Follow your doctor’s advice regarding diet and exercise. Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels to ensure effective diabetes management and timely dose adjustment if required.

Precautions:

  • Avoid alcohol, as it may increase the risk of low blood sugar or lactic acidosis (a rare but serious side effect of Metformin).

  • Inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, or heart disease.

  • Not suitable for Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

  • Should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment.

  • Avoid during severe illness, surgery, or imaging tests involving iodinated contrast agents.

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use only under medical supervision.

  • Always carry a sugar source (like glucose tablets or sweets) to manage sudden hypoglycemia (symptoms include sweating, shakiness, dizziness, or hunger).

Side Effects:

Common: Nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, metallic taste, or tiredness.
Serious (seek medical help): Severe hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis (muscle pain, breathing difficulty, unusual fatigue), liver dysfunction (yellowing of skin/eyes), or allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).
