About Brinzox Ophthalmic Suspension
Brinzox Ophthalmic Suspension contains Brinzolamide 1% w/v, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used to reduce increased pressure inside the eye. It is commonly prescribed for open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension, conditions in which increased intraocular pressure can damage the optic nerve and affect vision.
Uses of Brinzox Ophthalmic Suspension
Brinzox Ophthalmic Suspension is used for:
- Glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension
- Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP)
It works by reducing the production of aqueous humour, the fluid present inside the eye, thereby helping lower eye pressure.
How Brinzox Works
Brinzolamide belongs to the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor class. It reduces the formation of fluid inside the eye. This helps decrease elevated intraocular pressure and reduces the risk of damage associated with persistently high eye pressure.
Dosage
The usual recommended dose of Brinzolamide 1% ophthalmic suspension is one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily, or as directed by the ophthalmologist. If more than one eye medicine is prescribed, keep an interval of at least 10 minutes between different eye medicines.
Do not change the dose or stop treatment without consulting your doctor, even if your symptoms improve.
How to Use Brinzox Ophthalmic Suspension
- Wash your hands thoroughly before using the eye drops.
- Shake the bottle well before use.
- Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid.
- Instil one drop into the affected eye as prescribed.
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.
- Close your eye gently after applying the drop.
- Press gently near the inner corner of the eye for about one minute.
- Replace the cap immediately after use.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the medicine and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Blurred vision
- Eye irritation
- Eye pain or discomfort
- Bitter, sour, or unusual taste
- Taste changes
- Punctate keratitis
Blurred vision may occur temporarily after applying the drops. If your vision remains blurred or you experience significant changes in vision, avoid driving until your vision becomes clear.
Seek medical attention if you develop severe eye discomfort, an allergic reaction, breathing difficulty, or other unusual symptoms.
Precautions
Before using Brinzox, inform your doctor if you:
- Have a history of allergy to brinzolamide or other sulfonamide medicines
- Have severe kidney problems
- Have liver disease
- Have corneal or eye-surface problems
- Have a history of eye surgery or other significant eye conditions
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
Brinzolamide may cause hypersensitivity reactions in susceptible individuals, and caution is advised in patients with certain corneal or kidney conditions.
Storage
Store Brinzox Ophthalmic Suspension below 30°C and keep it away from excessive heat and moisture. Keep the bottle out of the reach of children. Do not use the product if the seal is broken before first use
