Description
Okamet GM 1002 Tablet is a combination oral antidiabetic medicine manufactured by Cipla Ltd. It contains Glimepiride 2mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 1000mg (Sustained Release). This combination is widely prescribed for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, especially when diet, exercise, and single-drug therapy are not enough to control blood sugar.
How Okamet GM 1002 Works
-
Glimepiride (2mg): Belongs to the sulfonylurea class. It stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, thereby reducing blood glucose levels, especially after meals.
-
Metformin SR (1000mg): A biguanide that works by reducing sugar production in the liver, decreasing sugar absorption from the intestines, and improving the body’s response to insulin. The sustained-release form ensures gradual absorption, providing long-lasting sugar control with fewer stomach-related side effects.
Together, these two medicines provide synergistic action for better control of both fasting and postprandial (after meal) blood glucose levels.
Uses of Okamet GM 1002 Tablet
-
Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in patients not controlled by lifestyle measures or single therapy.

-

-
Nerve problems (diabetic neuropathy)
-

-
Heart disease and stroke
-
-
May help in achieving better weight control compared to sulfonylurea alone.

Regular monitoring of blood glucose and HbA1c is necessary.
Precautions
-
Not recommended in Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
-
Use cautiously in patients with kidney or liver problems.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women should take only on doctor’s advice.
