Description

Abendol Chewable Tablet is an anthelmintic (deworming) medicine containing Albendazole 400 mg micronized in a chewable form, produced by Leeford. It is indicated for the treatment of a broad spectrum of parasitic worm infections, including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, pinworms, threadworms, tapeworms, and certain tissue parasites.

How it Works:
Albendazole inhibits tubulin polymerization in parasites, leading to metabolic disruption and depletion of energy. This causes paralysis and death of the worm, allowing it to be expelled from the body. The micronized formulation ensures improved absorption and efficacy when chewed and swallowed.

Uses of Abendol (Albendazole 400 mg Chewable):

  • Treatment of common intestinal worm infections (roundworm, pinworm, whipworm, hookworm, threadworm)

  • Management of tissue infections like neurocysticercosis (brain cysts from pork tapeworm) and hydatid disease (organ cysts from dog tapeworm)

  • Effective for cutaneous larva migrans, other systemic helminthic (worm) infections

Key Benefits:

  • Kills a wide range of intestinal and tissue-dwelling parasitic worms

  • Helps relieve symptoms like GI pain, diarrhea, nutritional deficiencies, and prevents complications

  • Improves community health in deworming programs, especially among children and travelers to endemic areas

  • Easy-to-use chewable tablet suited even for children and those unable to swallow whole tablets

Dosage & Administration:

  • Usual dose for most adult and pediatric worm infections: Single 400 mg tablet (chewed, not swallowed whole), with food for better absorption

  • May require repeat or extended dosing for certain infections (e.g., hydatid disease, neurocysticercosis) as directed by physician

  • Children: Dosage and safety to be determined by doctor (generally approved for children over 2 years)

Safety & Precautions:

  • To be used only as prescribed

  • Contraindicated in pregnancy; avoid in breastfeeding unless directed by a doctor

  • Common side effects: mild GI disturbances (nausea, abdominal pain), headache, dizziness, elevated liver enzymes

  • Not for use in known liver disease or bone marrow suppression without medical supervision

  • Maintain hygiene during treatment to prevent re-infection

  • Long-term or high-dose use may require blood and liver function monitoring

Note:
Take Abendol only under medical guidance, complete the full course, and consult a healthcare provider for persistent symptoms or side effects. Do not use for prevention or mass deworming without professional advice.
