Description
Aptiboost Tablet contains cyproheptadine, an antihistamine with additional appetite-stimulating effects. It is used for the symptomatic relief of allergies and, off-label, to enhance appetite and promote weight gain in certain conditions.
How it Works / Key Benefits
-
Cyproheptadine blocks histamine (H1) and serotonin receptors in the brain. This provides anti-allergic actions (reducing sneezing, itchiness, watery eyes, runny nose, rashes, and hives), and increases appetite by reducing serotonin’s appetite-suppressing effect in the hypothalamus.
-
It is also useful for the treatment of certain types of allergic or hypersensitivity conditions, chronic urticaria, and itching.
Uses / Indications
-
Relief of allergy symptoms—hay fever, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, urticaria (hives), and itching of allergic skin conditions.
-
Stimulation of appetite and promotion of weight gain in patients with poor appetite or underweight due to medical conditions.
Dosage & Administration
-
As prescribed by the physician, usually 1 tablet (4 mg) two or three times daily for adults.
-
Should be taken with or without food, regularly and at the same times for best results.
Safety & Precautions
-
Common side effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth or throat, headache, nausea, mild stomach upset, impaired coordination.
