Vildagard 50mg Tablet

Description

Vildagard 50mg Tablet contains Vildagliptin, an oral antidiabetic medicine belonging to the class DPP-4 inhibitors (Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 inhibitors). It helps lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus by increasing the release of insulin and decreasing the release of glucagon after meals. This improves blood glucose control without causing major weight gain.

It is usually prescribed along with diet and exercise, and may be given alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.

Uses

• Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus

• Helps control blood sugar levels after meals and fasting

• Reduces risk of diabetes-related complications (kidney damage, heart disease, nerve damage, eye problems)

• Can be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic drugs

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Headache, dizziness

• Nausea, stomach discomfort

• Constipation or diarrhea

• Weakness or fatigue

Serious but rare side effects:

• Pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain radiating to back, nausea, vomiting)

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, itching, difficulty breathing)

• Liver dysfunction (yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine, persistent nausea)

• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) – more likely when combined with sulfonylureas or insulin

Precautions

• Not recommended for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)

• Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney problems

• Regular monitoring of blood glucose and liver function tests is advised

• Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use only if prescribed by a doctor

• Maintain healthy diet and exercise for best results

• Avoid alcohol as it may increase risk of hypoglycemia

Storage

• Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight

• Keep tablets in the original strip until use

• Keep out of reach of children
