Description

DAPZIGARD 5 M Tablet is a dual oral antidiabetic designed for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially when blood sugar is not controlled by metformin or other single agents alone.

Uses / Indications

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus: Improves glycemic control in adults; can be used as monotherapy or, more commonly, as part of combination therapy with other antidiabetic agents.

• Additional benefits: May reduce risk of heart failure hospitalization and protect kidney function in eligible patients.

How it Works / Key Benefits

• Dapagliflozin: Blocks SGLT2 in the kidney, increasing urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood sugar, with the added benefit of modest blood pressure reduction, weight loss, and cardioprotection.

• Metformin (ER): Inhibits liver glucose production, improves insulin sensitivity, and reduces glucose absorption in the gut, with the sustained-release formulation providing better GI tolerability.

• Dual action targets both fasting and postprandial glucose, with a reduced risk of hypoglycemia when used alone.

Dosage & Administration

• Dose is as prescribed by the physician, typically one tablet once daily with food for best tolerability.

• Swallow whole with water; do not break, crush, or chew.

• Do not use in severe kidney/liver impairment; baseline and regular kidney function tests are recommended.

• Should not be used in pregnancy, those under 18 years, or when dehydrated.

Safety & Side Effects

• Common: Genital yeast infections, urinary tract infection, mild dehydration, increased urination, diarrhea, nausea, stomach upset.

• Occasional/serious: Lactic acidosis (with metformin; rare but serious), severe water/electrolyte loss, low blood sugar (more likely with sulfonylureas/insulin), rare ketoacidosis.

• Avoid alcohol—raises risk of lactic acidosis with metformin.

• Report symptoms like severe weakness, muscle pain, breathing difficulty, or reduced urination to your doctor.
