Description
Lizomac Tablet contains Linezolid, an antibiotic from the oxazolidinone class. It works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria, especially drug-resistant strains, by blocking protein synthesis.
It is mainly used for serious bacterial infections that do not respond to common antibiotics, including MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and VRE (Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci).
Uses of Lizomac Tablet

Pneumonia (including hospital-acquired and community-acquired)

Skin and soft tissue infections (including diabetic foot infections)

Infections caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria such as MRSA and VRE

Sometimes used in tuberculosis (MDR/XDR TB) as part of combination therapy (specialist prescription only)
How to Use

Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Usually taken once or twice daily, with or without food.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew.

Complete the full course even if you feel better early, to prevent relapse and resistance.

Dosage and duration depend on infection type and patient’s condition.

Serious side effects (seek immediate medical advice):

Low blood cell counts (anemia, low platelets → may cause tiredness, bleeding, infections)

Vision problems (blurred or loss of vision, especially with long-term use)

Peripheral neuropathy (numbness, tingling, burning in hands or feet)

Lactic acidosis (unexplained tiredness, abdominal pain, rapid breathing)

Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty)
Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, thyroid problems, psychiatric disorders, or seizures.

Avoid foods rich in tyramine (aged cheese, smoked meats, soy products, alcohol like red wine/beer) — may cause dangerous rise in blood pressure.

Inform your doctor if you take antidepressants (SSRIs, MAO inhibitors, tricyclics) — risk of serotonin syndrome.

Long-term use may require regular blood tests (to monitor blood counts).

Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless clearly necessary.

Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or have vision problems.
