Description

Princiclav DS Dry Syrup is a double-strength antibiotic formulation specially designed for children. It contains a combination of Amoxycillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills harmful bacteria, and Clavulanic Acid, which prevents bacterial resistance and enhances the effectiveness of amoxycillin.

It is prescribed for treating a wide range of bacterial infections in children, including those of the ear, throat, lungs, urinary tract, and skin. Being a DS (double strength) formulation, it delivers a higher dose per spoonful, making it more convenient for children who require stronger treatment.

Uses

Princiclav DS Dry Syrup is commonly prescribed for:

  • Ear infections (otitis media)

  • Throat infections (tonsillitis, pharyngitis)

  • Sinus infections (sinusitis)

  • Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia)

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Dental infections in children

Advantages

  • Double strength formulation – requires less volume per dose.

  • Provides broad-spectrum protection against various bacterial infections.

  • Reduces antibiotic resistance due to the action of clavulanic acid.

  • Convenient and effective for children needing higher antibiotic doses.

  • Trusted antibiotic combination used worldwide.

Possible Side Effects

Most side effects are mild and temporary, but they may include:

  • Diarrhea or loose stools

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset

  • Skin rash or mild allergic reaction

  • Loss of appetite

👉 Rare but serious side effects: persistent diarrhea, severe skin reactions, or allergic swelling (face, lips, throat). Seek medical attention if these occur.

Precautions

  • Inform the doctor if the child has penicillin or cephalosporin allergy.

  • Should be taken with food to reduce stomach upset.

  • Complete the full prescribed course, even if the child feels better.

  • Store the reconstituted syrup in the refrigerator and use within the recommended period (usually 7 days).

  • Not effective for viral infections such as cold or flu.

  • Use cautiously in children with liver or kidney problems.
