Description

LIPVAS GOLD 10 Capsule, manufactured by Cipla Ltd, is a fixed-dose triple combination therapy consisting of Atorvastatin (10mg), Aspirin (75mg), and Clopidogrel (75mg). It is widely prescribed for patients with heart disease, high cholesterol, or risk of stroke, offering a complete cardiovascular protection strategy in a single capsule.

This medicine works through three synergistic actions:

  1. Cholesterol Management (Atorvastatin 10mg):
Atorvastatin is a statin that blocks the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme in the liver, which is responsible for cholesterol synthesis. By lowering LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides while raising HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol), it slows down or prevents the buildup of fatty plaques in blood vessels (atherosclerosis). This helps maintain clear arteries, improves blood flow, and reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.

  2. Clot Prevention – Dual Antiplatelet Action (Aspirin 75mg + Clopidogrel 75mg):

    • Aspirin (75mg) works by irreversibly inhibiting the COX-1 enzyme, reducing thromboxane A2 production, which prevents platelets from clumping together. This decreases the risk of clot formation inside blood vessels.

    • Clopidogrel (75mg) complements aspirin by inhibiting platelet aggregation through the P2Y12 receptor pathway, offering stronger and broader protection against clot formation.

    • Together, aspirin and clopidogrel provide dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT), which is considered the gold standard in preventing blood clots after angioplasty, stent placement, bypass surgery, or previous heart attacks.

Uses of LIPVAS GOLD 10

  • Long-term prevention of heart attack (myocardial infarction) and stroke

  • Treatment of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD)

  • Secondary prevention in patients with a history of stent placement, angioplasty, or bypass surgery

  • Protection in patients with multiple cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, smoking, obesity, or high cholesterol

  • Reduction of future cardiovascular events in patients who have already suffered from a cardiac event

  • Reduces bad cholesterol and triglycerides, raises good cholesterol

  • Prevents clot formation inside arteries (blood thinning effect)

  • Reduces the chance of recurrent heart attack, angina, or stroke

  • Improves long-term survival in patients with chronic heart disease

Important Information for Patients

  • Dosage & Administration: LIPVAS GOLD 10 is usually taken once daily or as directed by your physician. It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and not chewed or crushed.

  • Common Side Effects: Headache, dizziness, stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, mild muscle pain, or gastric irritation. These are usually mild and temporary.

  • Serious (Rare) Side Effects: Unexplained muscle weakness, persistent stomach bleeding (black stools, vomiting blood), jaundice (yellowing of eyes/skin), unusual bruising or bleeding, or allergic reactions. If any of these occur, medical attention should be sought immediately.

  • Precautions:

    • Not suitable for patients with active stomach ulcers, bleeding disorders, liver disease, or recent brain hemorrhage.
