Description

Abvida M 50/500 mg Tablet is a combination oral anti-diabetic medication manufactured by Abbott, containing Vildagliptin (50mg) and Metformin Hydrochloride (500mg) per tablet. It is primarily indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults for those whose blood glucose is not adequately controlled by diet, exercise, or single-agent therapy.

How it Works:

• Vildagliptin (DPP-4 inhibitor): Boosts levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), which increase insulin release and reduce glucagon secretion after meals—helping control postprandial and fasting blood glucose.

• Metformin (Biguanide): Decreases glucose production by the liver, delays intestinal glucose absorption, and enhances the body’s response to insulin—improving overall glycemic control.

The combination delivers more effective control of blood sugar than either medicine alone, helping prevent complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, diabetic foot ulcers, and cardiovascular risks.
