Description

Bisotril-5 Tablet contains bisoprolol, a cardioselective beta-blocker prescribed for the management of high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic stable angina, and chronic heart failure.

Uses / Indications

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)

  • Chronic (stable) angina pectoris (chest pain)

  • Heart failure (with reduced ejection fraction; alongside ACE inhibitors, diuretics, etc.)

  • Prevention of heart attacks and some irregular rhythms (atrial fibrillation)

Mechanism of Action

  • Bisoprolol blocks beta-1 receptors in the heart, slowing heart rate and reducing cardiac output, thus lowering blood pressure, reducing heart rate, and decreasing the heart’s oxygen demand.

  • Reduces the risk of cardiac events, helps stabilize heart rhythm, and supports long-term heart protection.

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dose for hypertension/angina: 5 mg once daily (morning preferred), can be taken with or without food.

  • Dose can be increased up to 10–20 mg once daily if needed; lower doses and slower up-titration in elderly, liver/kidney impairment, or heart failure.

  • Always swallow tablet whole with water; do not stop suddenly—taper gradually if stopping is necessary.

  • Not for use in children except under specialist advice.

Safety & Precautions

  • Common side effects: tiredness, dizziness, slow heartbeat, cold extremities, stomach upset, headache, sleep disturbances.

  • Rare but serious: worsening heart failure, severe bradycardia, severe hypotension—contact doctor if these occur urgently.

  • Not for use in severe COPD/asthma, heart block, symptomatic low blood pressure, or shock.

  • Use with caution in liver/kidney disease, diabetes, or elderly patients.

  • Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically instructed.

Note:
Bisotril-5 is for long-term use; continue healthy lifestyle measures—heart-healthy diet, exercise, not smoking—for best cardiac and blood pressure outcomes.
