Description

Canditral 200 Capsule is a systemic antifungal medicine containing Itraconazole (200mg), a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal. It works by blocking the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, thereby weakening and killing the fungal cells.

This higher-strength formulation is especially prescribed for moderate to severe fungal infections or systemic infections that cannot be managed with lower doses. It is effective against both superficial infections (skin, nails, oral, genital) and deep-seated/systemic fungal infections affecting internal organs.

Uses

• Onychomycosis (fungal nail infections, often requiring prolonged therapy)

• Oropharyngeal & esophageal candidiasis (mouth and throat fungal infections)

• Vulvovaginal candidiasis (recurrent vaginal yeast infections)

• Dermatophytosis (ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch, resistant tinea infections)

• Systemic fungal infections such as:

  • Aspergillosis

  • Histoplasmosis

  • Blastomycosis

  • Sporotrichosis

Dosage & Directions for Use

• Typical adult dose: 200 mg once or twice daily, depending on the infection and severity.

• Always take after a full meal for optimal absorption.

• Duration:

  • Skin infections: 1–4 weeks

  • Nail infections: 3–6 months (continuous or pulse therapy)

  • Systemic infections: may extend to several months as per doctor’s advice

• Do not skip doses or stop early, as this may lead to relapse.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects include:

• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea

• Headache, dizziness

• Mild rash, swelling, or itching

• Increased liver enzymes

Serious but rare effects:

• Liver toxicity (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine, fatigue)

• Heart failure (shortness of breath, swelling of legs, sudden weight gain)

• Severe allergic reactions
