Description

DAPZIGARD-S 100 Tablet is a powerful dual-action oral antidiabetic for adults with type 2 diabetes, especially when single or dual agents fail to achieve proper glycemic control.

Uses / Indications

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus: Lowers blood sugar in adults inadequately controlled by diet, exercise, and/or other oral agents, and helps reduce long-term diabetes complications.

• Can be used in combination with other antidiabetic medicines (like metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin) when needed.

How it Works / Key Benefits

• Dapagliflozin: SGLT2 inhibitor—increases urinary glucose excretion, lowering both fasting and post-meal blood sugars, and offering additional benefits such as mild weight loss, blood pressure reduction, and heart/kidney protection.

• Sitagliptin: DPP-4 inhibitor—raises insulin levels after meals, lowers glucagon (the hormone that raises blood sugar), and provides smoother postprandial glucose profiles with a very low risk of hypoglycemia.

• The combination targets two blood glucose regulation pathways for more effective and sustained glycemic control than either agent alone.

Dosage & Administration

• One tablet once daily, with or without food, at a consistent time each day; swallow whole—do not split, chew, or crush.

• Must be continued as prescribed, and not stopped abruptly or without medical advice to prevent blood sugar spikes and complications.

• Dosage and appropriateness are determined by the treating physician based on kidney, liver, and concurrent medicines.

Safety & Side Effects

• Common: Genital yeast infection, urinary tract infection, increased urination, sore throat, nasal congestion, headache, dizziness, rashes.

• Occasional/serious: Hypoglycemia (especially if combined with insulin/sulfonylureas), pancreatitis, dehydration, severe allergic reaction (swelling/shortness of breath), severe infection.

• Hydration and genital hygiene are important to reduce some risks.

• Not for patients with type 1 diabetes, severe kidney/liver impairment, pregnancy, or breastfeeding without doctor’s advice.
