Description

Gabaneuron Tablet is a combination medicine primarily used to treat neuropathic pain (nerve pain) and nerve damage caused by conditions such as diabetes, shingles, or spinal cord injuries. It combines Gabapentin, an antiepileptic drug with pain-relieving properties, and Methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12), which supports nerve repair and regeneration.

This combination provides both symptomatic relief from nerve pain and long-term nerve protection, making it highly effective in chronic conditions.

Uses / Indications

  • Neuropathic pain (diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, sciatica)

  • Peripheral neuropathy

  • Fibromyalgia (widespread muscle pain and fatigue)

  • Adjunct therapy in partial seizures (epilepsy)

  • Nerve damage due to vitamin B12 deficiency

  • Chronic pain syndromes where standard painkillers are ineffective

How It Works (Mechanism of Action)

  • Gabapentin (300 mg):

    • An antiepileptic drug that binds to calcium channels in nerve cells.

    • Reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters responsible for transmitting pain signals.

    • Provides analgesic, anticonvulsant, and anxiolytic effects.

  • Methylcobalamin (500 mcg):

    • An active form of Vitamin B12.

    • Promotes nerve regeneration, repair of the myelin sheath, and improved nerve conduction.

    • Helps reduce further nerve damage in chronic neuropathies.

Together, they provide fast pain relief and improve nerve health.

Dosage & Administration

  • Typical adult dose: One tablet once or twice daily, as directed by the physician.

  • Should be taken with or without food, swallowed whole with water.

  • Dose adjustments may be needed in patients with kidney problems or elderly patients.

  • Must be taken regularly; do not stop suddenly without doctor’s advice to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Side Effects

Common:

  • Drowsiness, dizziness, sleepiness

  • Fatigue, loss of coordination

  • Blurred vision

  • Weight gain, swelling in hands/feet

  • Constipation or stomach upset

Serious (rare):

  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, itching, breathing difficulty)

  • Mood or behavior changes, depression, suicidal thoughts

  • Muscle weakness, tremors

  • Breathing problems (especially in patients with respiratory conditions)

  • Unusual bleeding or bruising

Precautions & Warnings

  • May cause drowsiness and dizziness → avoid driving or operating machinery.

  • Caution in patients with kidney disease, heart problems, or psychiatric disorders.

  • Alcohol should be avoided as it increases sedation.

  • May increase risk of suicidal thoughts → monitor mood closely.

  • Safe use in pregnancy and breastfeeding should be under medical supervision only.

  • Not intended for children unless prescribed.

Summary

Gabaneuron Tablet (Gabapentin 300 mg + Methylcobalamin 500 mcg) is a nerve-protective and pain-relieving medicine widely used for neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and nerve damage due to diabetes or shingles. While Gabapentin reduces nerve pain signals, Methylcobalamin repairs and regenerates damaged nerves. It is highly effective but requires careful medical supervision due to possible side effects such as drowsiness, weight gain, and mood changes.
