ILASET

Description

ILASET contains ilaprazole, a next-generation proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It is formulated as an enteric-coated tablet for enhanced acid resistance and absorption, commonly packaged in alu-alu strips for stability and protection.

Primary Uses

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): Relieves heartburn, regurgitation, and esophageal irritation.

• Peptic ulcers (gastric and duodenal): Promotes healing and prevents recurrence.

• Gastritis and erosive esophagitis

• NSAID-induced gastric irritation

• Functional dyspepsia

Mechanism of Action

Ilaprazole is a potent PPI. It selectively and irreversibly blocks the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in stomach parietal cells, dramatically reducing acid secretion, supporting mucosal healing, and relieving symptoms of acid-related disorders.

Dosage & Administration

• Usually one 10 mg tablet daily, taken one hour before meals, preferably in the morning.

• Dosage may be adjusted by the physician as per severity and response.

• Swallow whole, do not chew, crush, or break.

Common Side Effects

• Nausea, headache, flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness.

• Rare/serious: Rash, allergic reaction, vitamin B12 deficiency (long-term), bone fracture risk (very long-term), renal effects.

Safety & Precautions

• Avoid long-term use without doctor’s advice due to risk of nutrient deficiency and bone loss.

• Not to be taken with HIV protease inhibitors or drugs that interact with gastric acid suppression

• Avoid if history of allergic reaction to PPIs, severe liver impairment, or concurrent osteoporosis.

• Inform physician of all other medications
