Description

Iopar-SR Capsule is a prescription medicine containing Acetazolamide 250mg in a sustained-release formulation. It belongs to the class of carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and is commonly prescribed to reduce pressure inside the eye in glaucoma, prevent and treat acute mountain sickness, and as an add-on treatment for certain seizure disorders. It may also be used in selected cases to reduce fluid retention, as advised by a doctor.

Uses of Iopar-SR Capsule

  • Open-angle glaucoma
  • Secondary glaucoma
  • Prevention and treatment of acute mountain sickness (altitude sickness)
  • Adjunct treatment for certain types of epilepsy
  • Fluid retention (edema), when prescribed by a doctor

Benefits of Iopar-SR Capsule

  • Lowers intraocular pressure in glaucoma
  • Helps prevent symptoms of altitude sickness
  • Supports seizure control when used with other anti-epileptic medicines
  • Removes excess fluid from the body
  • Sustained-release formulation provides prolonged action

How Iopar-SR Capsule Works

Acetazolamide blocks the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, reducing the production of aqueous humor in the eye and thereby lowering eye pressure. It also increases the excretion of bicarbonate, sodium, and water by the kidneys, producing a mild diuretic effect. At high altitudes, it helps the body adapt by improving breathing and oxygenation.
