LEFNO-10

Description

LEFNO-10 is a prescription-only tablet containing leflunomide, a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) used most commonly in autoimmune joint diseases. It is supplied in blister packaging for stability and protection.

Clinical Uses

• Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis: Reduces pain, swelling, stiffness, and slows progression of joint damage in adults with active disease.

• Psoriatic arthritis: Controls symptoms and reduces inflammation in joints affected by psoriasis.

• Sometimes used for other autoimmune/inflammatory disorders where immune suppression is indicated.

Mechanism of Action

Leflunomide inhibits dihydroorotate dehydrogenase, an enzyme needed for DNA synthesis in immune cells. This slows down immune cell replication, suppressing abnormal immune responses and reducing joint inflammation and damage.

Dosage & Administration

• Take once daily, with or without food; swallow whole with water.

• Continue treatment even when symptoms improve, as the benefits are long-term.

• Dose and duration are individualized based on medical advice

• Not for use in children or adolescents

Common Side Effects

• Nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, headache, hair loss, skin rash, elevated liver enzymes

• Rare: serious liver damage, nerve damage, blood count abnormalities, allergic reactions, severe infection risk.

Precautions & Safety Advice

• Regular blood monitoring (liver function, blood count) is required.

• Contraindications: Pregnancy, breastfeeding, severe liver/kidney/bone marrow disease, serious infections, allergy to leflunomide.
