Description

Mactor ASP 75 Capsule is a fixed-dose combination of Atorvastatin (10mg) and Aspirin (75mg). It is commonly prescribed for patients with existing heart disease or those at high risk of cardiovascular events.

How it works:

  • Atorvastatin: A statin that lowers total cholesterol, LDL (“bad cholesterol”), and triglycerides while increasing HDL (“good cholesterol”). It works by blocking the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase in the liver, reducing cholesterol synthesis and preventing plaque buildup in blood vessels.

  • Aspirin: An antiplatelet medicine that prevents blood cells (platelets) from sticking together and forming clots. This reduces the risk of blocked arteries that can cause heart attack or stroke.

Together, they provide dual protection by controlling cholesterol levels and preventing blood clot formation.

Uses:

  • Management of high cholesterol and triglycerides

  • Prevention of heart attack, stroke, and angina

  • Treatment for patients with a history of heart disease, stents, or bypass surgery

  • Secondary prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients

Benefits:

  • Lowers harmful cholesterol and triglyceride levels

  • Prevents the formation of blood clots in arteries

  • Reduces long-term risk of heart attack and stroke

  • Offers combined protection in patients with multiple risk factors (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking)

Dosage & Administration:
Mactor ASP 75 Capsule should be taken once daily, usually in the evening, with or without food, as prescribed by the doctor. Regular monitoring of lipid profile and clotting parameters may be required.

Precautions:

  • Not suitable for patients with active liver disease, bleeding disorders, stomach ulcers, or recent history of stroke caused by bleeding.

  • Should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

  • Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, asthma, or alcohol dependence.

  • Avoid taking additional aspirin-containing medicines unless prescribed.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Stomach upset, acidity, nausea

  • Increased risk of bleeding or bruising

  • Muscle pain, weakness (rare but may indicate statin-induced muscle problems)

  • Mild increase in liver enzymes
