Description

Montaz 500mg Injection is a combination antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It contains Ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin that kills bacteria by preventing cell wall synthesis, and Tazobactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents bacterial resistance. This combination is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including resistant strains.

The 500mg strength is commonly prescribed for children, adolescents, or adults with mild to moderate infections.

Uses

  • Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis)

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Bone and joint infections

  • Intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis, post-surgical infections)

  • Septicemia (bloodstream infections)

  • Gynecological infections (pelvic inflammatory disease, post-partum infections)

  • Bacterial meningitis (in children and adults)

How It Works

  • Ceftriaxone: Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death.

  • Tazobactam: Inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, keeping Ceftriaxone effective.

Together, they broaden the spectrum of action and reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.

Side Effects

Common:

  • Pain, redness, or swelling at injection site

  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting

  • Rash, mild fever, headache

Serious (rare):

  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Persistent or bloody diarrhea (Clostridium difficile colitis)

  • Abnormal liver function or jaundice

  • Blood disorders (low platelets, anemia, leukopenia)

  • Avoid in patients allergic to cephalosporins or penicillins

  • Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment

  • Not recommended in neonates with jaundice (hyperbilirubinemia)

  • Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if prescribed by a doctor
