Description

Ornof Tablet is a combination antibiotic containing Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone, and Ornidazole, an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent. This dual-action formulation is used to treat mixed bacterial and protozoal infections, particularly in the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts.

Uses

  • Gastrointestinal infections – amoebic dysentery, giardiasis, enteritis

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Bacterial diarrhea and dysentery

  • Mixed protozoal and bacterial infections

  • Genitourinary infections (e.g., trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis)

  • Other susceptible bacterial infections where combination therapy is required

How It Works

  • Ofloxacin (200mg): Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial replication and growth.

  • Ornidazole (500mg): Interferes with DNA synthesis in protozoa and anaerobic bacteria, causing cell death.

The combination provides broad-spectrum coverage for both bacterial and protozoal infections.

Side Effects

Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting

  • Stomach discomfort or diarrhea

  • Headache, dizziness

  • Metallic taste in the mouth

Serious (rare):

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Peripheral neuropathy or neurological symptoms (linked to Ornidazole)
