Paraxin Suspension

Description

Paraxin Suspension is an antibiotic formulation containing Chloramphenicol, designed for pediatric and adult use in liquid form. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections when other antibiotics are ineffective or not suitable. Chloramphenicol works by inhibiting protein synthesis in bacteria, thereby preventing their growth and helping the immune system clear the infection.

This suspension is particularly useful for children or patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets or capsules.

Uses / Indications:

• Typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever

• Severe respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)

• Meningitis (in certain cases under strict medical supervision)

• Eye, ear, and skin infections caused by sensitive bacteria

• Other systemic bacterial infections resistant to standard antibiotics

Dosage & Administration:

• Dosage should be determined strictly by the prescribing doctor, depending on age, body weight, and severity of infection.

• Shake the bottle well before use.

• Use the provided measuring cup or dropper to ensure accurate dosing.

• Complete the full course of therapy, even if symptoms improve earlier, to prevent bacterial resistance.

Side Effects:
Possible side effects may include:

• Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset

• Diarrhea or abdominal pain

• Allergic skin reactions (rash, itching, swelling)

• Headache or dizziness

• Rare but serious: bone marrow suppression, anemia, aplastic anemia, or gray baby syndrome (in infants)

Precautions & Warnings:

• Not recommended in newborns unless prescribed under emergency conditions, due to risk of gray baby syndrome.

• Inform your doctor if your child has any history of liver or kidney problems, or blood disorders.

• Regular blood monitoring may be advised in long-term therapy.

• Avoid unnecessary or prolonged use to prevent resistance and side effects.

Storage:

• Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

• Keep tightly closed and out of reach of children.

• Discard any unused suspension after the expiry date or as directed by the pharmacist.
