Phenergan Injection

Description

Phenergan Injection contains Promethazine, an antihistamine that belongs to the phenothiazine class of medicines. It is commonly used for the treatment and prevention of nausea, vomiting, allergies, motion sickness, and also for sedation before or after surgery. In hospital settings, it is often administered when rapid relief is required or when oral administration is not possible.

Uses / Indications:

• Relief of allergy symptoms (hay fever, urticaria, rhinitis)

• Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting (including post-operative and drug-induced)

• Motion sickness

• Sedation before or after surgery or medical procedures

• Adjunct therapy in pain management where sedation is helpful

Dosage & Administration:

• Administered intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV) by a healthcare professional only.

• Dosage depends on the patient’s age, condition, and severity of symptoms.

• Not for self-administration.

Possible Side Effects:

• Drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision

• Dry mouth, constipation, or urinary retention

• Pain or irritation at the injection site

• Allergic skin reactions (rash, itching, swelling)

• Rare but serious: respiratory depression, confusion, seizures, or severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)

Precautions & Warnings:

• Not recommended in children under 2 years due to the risk of severe breathing problems.

• Use with caution in elderly patients, and in those with asthma, lung disease, liver problems, or seizure disorders.

• Avoid alcohol or other sedatives while receiving this medicine, as it may enhance drowsiness.

• Should be used in pregnancy or breastfeeding only under strict medical advice.

• May cause drowsiness—avoid driving or operating heavy machinery after administration.

• Store in a cool, dry place away from light.

• Keep out of reach of children.
