Description
Tariflox D Eye Drops is a combination medication used to treat bacterial infections and inflammation of the eye. It contains ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a corticosteroid.
-
Ofloxacin works by inhibiting the DNA gyrase enzyme, preventing bacterial cell division and replication, thereby eliminating the infection.
-
Dexamethasone reduces inflammation by suppressing the production of inflammatory mediators, alleviating symptoms like redness, swelling, and itching.
Indications:
-
Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye)
-
Corneal ulcers
-
Other bacterial infections of the eye
Dosage and Administration:
-
Dosage: As prescribed by a healthcare professional.
-
Administration: Wash hands thoroughly before use. Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye without touching it and instill the prescribed number of drops into the pocket. Close the eye and press gently on the inner corner to prevent drainage. Repeat for the other eye if directed.
-
Frequency: Typically used every 4 hours during the day and every 6 hours at night for the first 2 days, then reduced as advised by your doctor.
Safety Information:
-
Storage: Store below 30°C. Keep the bottle tightly closed and away from direct sunlight.
-
Precautions: Consult your doctor before use if you have a history of hypersensitivity to ofloxacin, dexamethasone, or other quinolones. Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment.
-
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor.
-
Side Effects: May include temporary stinging or burning sensation upon application, eye irritation, or blurred vision. If these persist or worsen, consult your healthcare provider.
Important Notes:
-
Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve to prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
-
Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye, to prevent contamination.
-
If you miss a dose, instill it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose—do not double up to make up for a missed dose.
